James Spencer Dickerson of Glendale, recently became engaged. The bride-to-be, a graduate of Horton Watkins High School, attended Lindenwood Group Seeks Telephone Volunteers CONTACT-St. Louis is seeking new volunteers for its helpline. Classes begin March 2. Deadline for application is Feb.

23. CONTACT's helpline is for people who have a need to discuss a problem, feeling or situation that is causing them distress or suffering. Volunteers receive 50 hours of training. Besides preparing a person for service on the helpline, training is an experience in personal growth. The program consists of instruction and extensive practice in active listening skills.

Lectures by members of the professional mental health community are presented on crisis intervention, suicide, sexuality, loneliness, dying and grief, substance abuse and stress management.
