Details of the five-year program were recently revealed by Samuel L.

Haber, executive vicechairman of the Joint Distribution Committee. The training program, named after Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, former JDC director'general, was inaugurated last year to train top echelon center personnel at the Hebrew University's Paul Baerwald School of Social Work. The 20 students who have completed their training will be taking over leading positions in 19 existing community centers throughout the country.

Additional graduates over the next four years of the program will help staff some 60 new community centers which are expected to be built within the next five years, Haber said. The JDC will be providing $256,000 for the Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz training program, Haber reported. Hebrew University and JDC will each contribute a portion of this amount annually over the five-year period to fund the program.

JDC will allocate. another amount over a three-year period to finance field work training for the graduating students and for a special research project on Israeli ethnic groups. JDC receives funds for its programs in Israel and other countries mainly from the campaigns of the United Jewish Appeal. Other aspects of the program include refresher courses for community center personnel, development of special staff to work in deprived neighborhoods in an effort to draw the young people to the centers and developing teaching materials for supervisory personnel, Haber concluded.
